Allan Jones is a South Bay native who grew up in San Pedro and Torrance and graduated from South High School. He began his South Bay practice in 1979 and has served the community with traditional dental services for more than three decades.
In addition to leading his practice, Dr. Jones has been teaching for more than 30 years. For 24 years (1984–2008), he was a clinical instructor at the University of Southern California (USC) School of Dentistry, where he taught courses on bite-related issues, facial pain and restorative dentistry. He is currently on the faculty of the Newport Coast Oral Facial Institute, teaching posture, ergonomics and exercise for dentists.
An expert in microscope-enhanced dentistry, researcher and recognized authority on dental issues, Dr. Jones brings a wide range of sophisticated expertise to his practice. He also oversees a laboratory that he established in 2010 to produce high-quality dental restorations for his patients.
Dr. Jones is the author of several published articles and papers, most recently on osteoporosis drugs (bisphosphonates). He served as contributing editor for two issues of the California Dental Association (CDA) Journal, including the award-winning dental ergonomics issue. His interest in that area led him to become a National Strength and Conditioning Association-Certified Personal Trainer.®
Dr. Jones received his DDS degree from the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in 1979. He later earned a master’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences from USC, completing his studies in 2011.
He holds two bachelor’s degrees from the University of California Irvine –– the first in biological sciences (1975) and the second in chemistry (1976).
For his master’s thesis at USC, Dr. Jones created a mathematical method for predicting susceptibility to bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws. He has since become an expert on bisphosphonates, which include drugs commonly prescribed to treat osteoporosis and cancers that affect bone.
Dr. Jones is committed to promoting excellence in dentistry and to supporting the local South Bay community through organizations such as The Jester & Pharley Phund and El Nido.
